HHS Big Red Band


Kimberly Mieder has been a music educator for over 15 years and is currently serving in her 7th year as Director of Bands and Orchestra at Hillsborough High School.  She conducts and orchestrates for the Big Red Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Band and Chorus.  Under her direction, both the Orchestra and Band programs have received Superior Ratings at District Evaluations. 

From 1997 - 2001, Ms. Mieder was Director of Bands at Buchanan Middle School.  Under her direction, the Buchanan Middle School band program consistently received straight superiors at both Concert and Jazz Band District Festivals. Her program produced over 17 "Master Musicians" and countless state and district honor band students.  She was awarded "Teacher of the Year" and is a 4th time nominee for the National "Who’s Who in American Teachers".   Additionally, Ms. Mieder has served as the Coordinator and Guest Conductor for the Hillsborough All-County Middle School Jazz Honor Band and the chairperson for the Middle School Master Musician Program. 
Ms. Mieder is an active member of:  the Florida Bandmasters Association, the Florida Orchestra Association, the Florida Music Educators Association, and the Tri M Music Honor Society.

While originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ms. Mieder relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, where she completed 3 years of Study at the Conservatory of Music.  As a "Full Talent Scholarship Recipient", she majored in Piano and French Horn Performance, with an emphasis in Pedagogy.  After 8 years of public performing, studio teaching, and conducting junior college group classes in both Kansas City and Miami, Ms. Mieder received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Florida State University.
   

Notable "Big Red" performances include: Pre-game/Post-game performances at New York Yankees spring training games, Host Band for "Friday Night Frenzy" on ABC Action News, the Korean War Veterans Memorial Dedication at Ed Radice Park, and numerous parades and events annually throughout various communities within Hillsborough County.

In her personal time Ms. Mieder enjoys hanging out with her two adorable dogs,  whom she affectionately refers to as her "kids".
